So I called Mr Blasenstein regarding accounting matters and he was really nice. I had just had my taxes finished but wasn’t 100% happy with the failures to properly explain things to me regarding submitting early payments to avoid penalties as it’s my first year that I’ll have money that won’t be directly taxed. After looking at my 2023 submitted taxes he mentioned that my refund was unknown status, and I explained the other accountant said to leave it in lieu of next years taxes..something to that effect, I’m still new and learning. He told me that they’d be based on what I earned in 2023 not 2024 which was anticipated to be more than 2023 and he said it didn’t matter it was based off of what I earned in 2023. I thought that was odd but accepted that and he said maybe the other accountant wanted to steal the refund. I was recording that phone conversation ( legally in accordance with NYS one party consent laws) because I like to protect myself in business matters until I trust someone ) I told him I wasn’t sure but then became concerned and emailed the other accountant as to where it was and it turned out that Mr Blasenstein just hadn’t properly read properly read the federal taxes I provided him where a note attacked said that the refund money was left for the next taxes owed. ( I’m not sure the proper wording yet for this) Then, oddly he suddenly said that it was okay to have submitted the refund for next taxes since I’d be making more money in 2024 when I asked him a few times why that wouldn’t matter and he kept saying it doesn’t and goes by 2023 which I thought was off but just said okay, I understand that’s the rules I just don’t understand why those are the rules. So the first accountant who was very inappropriate in my humble opinion, and had asked me how much money I’d inherited which had nothing to do with my taxes, so of course when Mr blasenstein said maybe he wanted to steal it , right away I remembered how starve it was that he’d asked that. At that point I had concerns about his grasp on taxes but he was so nice so didn’t say anything about his about face in the idea taxes should go according to estimated income rather than 2023. Ik not sure if he’s good or not, but I’m very confused as to why he’d have been so adamant that I didn’t need to submit my refund, and then after said yes it’s not a wrong thing to have done. Either way if you’re not familiar with the tax protocol or new like me to paying from earnings that aren’t taxed by the government right away, I wouldn’t recommend him.` He also Instead of apologizing to me or the other accountant for his own failure to read the attacked note on the federal taxes, threw me under the bus leaving me to get mad that the other accountant may have done something wrong. Setting off a chain of events that , had he properly read the return, or at least held his piece on what may have happened until after he’d knows the facts wouldn’t have ended so poorly. From now on I’ll hire someone based on personal referrals.
